Collagen for joints and to help your skin

Hello again!

Have you heard about collagen and what it can do for you?

Many people are talking about it’s benefits. As we age, our body does not produce as much collagen. This can lead to achy joints and less plumpness and elasticity in our skin. Testimonials speak of it’s benefits for hair, skin, nails, and reduction of pain. Some say they have been able to get off of pain killers after taking it and that their skin has less wrinkles. It appears that it takes a good month to notice results.

I have purchased and am taking this one for about 3 weeks and have noticed less pain in my knees. Click on the link to purchase it yourself. It is well priced compared to many others options and has incredible reviews: over 24,000 with a 4 1/2 star rating!

*Update: I’ve noticed my nails growing longer and stronger since taking this supplement.

Here’s to hoping you have a pain free and beautiful new year!

All natural highly effective retinoids for acne and wrinkles

There is a whole line of retinoids on the market, which are known as one of the best anti agers you can buy over the counter.  Retinoids are a vitamin A product. Wrinkles are reduced as retinoids increase the production of collagen, stimulate the production of new blood vessels in the skin and even help to reduce age spots and soften rough patches as well.  Retinoids are helpful for aging issues on hands too.

They are also known to help acne as they gently remove the dull outer layer of skin, thereby reducing outbreaks by preventing dead cells from clogging pores.

I’ve known about them for years and yet would be concerned about the toxicity of some of the product lines that carried them.

But finally, there has been a discovery of a completely clean oil that naturally contains retinoids and all their benefits so I had to share about it here.  It is called Cacay oil and is pretty fairly priced.  Please click here if you would like to learn more and/or purchase.  You can get just one bottle verses subscribing by hitting the dot that is next to ‘one time purchase.’

Also, please note, when using retinoids, always wear a good sunblock and do your best to avoid direct sunlight as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s rays.  UVA/UVB rays from the sun are the number one ager of the skin anyways, so if you’d like to protect your skin, wear long sleeves, hats, sunglasses and sunblock.

This is an oil that could be used with the derma roller as well.

An update on this blog’s vision/mission

Hey there friends!

Just wanted to update you on exactly what Hair Naturally’s mission statement is and has been for over 5 years, so you would know why in the world you would want to spend your time coming into our salon or reading this blog.

First of all, our vision and goal is to be a ‘healthier alternative for beauty.’  Three counterparts to our mission statement is to, in all our services, products and advice, be 1) as green and clean as possible, 2) as effective as possible and 3) as affordable as possible.  Why?  Because one, we do not want any of our personal care to have toxic ingredients that effect us in areas such as cancer causing carcinogens, hormone disruptors, or allergens.  Two, just because something is free of toxins, that does not mean it will work well, so we constantly research and test all we use to be sure it works well, so is effective.  And three, we do not believe in great products needing to cost a ton of money.  Sure, there may be a great skin cream that costs $90 per ounce and so is gone in a month, but do you really want that small part of your personal care to cost you that much per month?,… especially when there are many products out there that work JUST AS WELL or better for less?

Lastly, I like to write pretty short blogs so that it’s quick and easy access information to help you, without spending tons of your time.

So, follow me and I will show you all I’ve learned from years of research on natural healthy beauty.

If there is any bit of information that is helpful to you or those you love, I’d like to give all glory to God, who is my Help in all I do.

And thank you so very much for taking the time to read.

Derma rolling

Hey Friends!

Have you heard about Derma rolling?  We’ve talked in another blog about circulation and how important it is.  Derma rolling is a more intensive form of stimulation for the skin to bring deeper circulation and then regeneration to the skin.

Derma rolling is used to treat acne scarring, scarring in general, aging, wrinkles and hair loss.

It is an instrument involving a roller with tiny needles on it and you are to roll in on your skin for deep exfoliation, regeneration and deeper product penetration.  As we age, our skin can form a strong dull outer layer that does not regenerate near as fast as when we were young and we can buy great products that don’t go deep in to do their work well.

So this is a friendly reminder as well that if say you buy some great new product like vitamin c serum or hyaluronic acid to brighten and plump your skin, it won’t do much if it can’t go deep into the skin.  Exfoliating first can help.  Derma rolling goes deeper.

The tiny needles cause slight wounding to the skin, causing blood to rush there and begin to heal and resurface the skin.  It can be used on the face or body.  Some people use them for stretch marks and other body scarring.

A child’s skin regenerates quite regularly and so this is why it looks so supple and fresh all the time.  A person who is an adult say 30 and up has a much slower regeneration, meaning cells dying and then new ones forming.  Some say that as old as you are is how often your skin regenerates.  So if your are 40, every 40 days or so, 60, every 60 days or so, etc.  Derma rolling is a way to speed up that process to get younger looking skin.

There are all types of length of needles.  The smallest and safest to start with is the .25 mm length which you can use several times a week.  Next, is the .5 length, then the .75, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and depending on the company, can go on up and also have more ‘in between’ lengths.  Really no one should use higher then a 1.5 at home.  The higher ones are used only by medical office staff.  And for the record, the 1.0 stings and hurts, but the needle lengths below that don’t really hurt.  This is my opinion as I’ve been using the 1.0.  Lengths up to the 1.0 do not cause bleeding as they do not puncture deep enough to draw blood.  Medical length ones do.

I will tell you my results.  Keep in mind that with the 1.0 length, you are to use it about once a month and I’ve only used mine about every 2 to 3 months, as I can be a bit lazy concerning skin care and also I love the outdoors and you are not to spend time in the sun when using this device.  Not sure I’ve seen amazing anti aging qualities, but one thing that is clear and stands out to me is that where my eyebrows were thinning they have filled in pretty soon after each use.  And so, of course I have gone up into my hair line more recently when I have used it to re-thicken any areas there as well.

Some strict warnings are 1)  Be SURE you sanitize well.  Clean your face very well before using.  Clean the derma roller very well before and after each use with rubbing alcohol.  This can be sprayed on.  You can see how a person can cause infection very easily here, so be careful. 2)  You are not to allow your face to be in the sun for at least one week after use.  Really, if you are into anti aging on any level, know that the sun is your number one ager, causing wrinkles, sagging, discoloration and age spots.  When you have to go out, wear sunblock, sunglasses, hats, long sleeves and pants, even gloves if you don’t want aging hands.  But KNOW that if you have recently derma rolled, your skin is extra sensitive to the sun and really should not see sun for at least a week after as it will irritate and possibly cause more damage then you had before as your skin is in a vulnerable sensitive state.

The way to use your derma roller is to deeply cleanse your face, then apply a gentle nice skin product like hyaluronic acid and then roll all over face, neck and decollete.  You are to roll vertically, horizontally, and then diagonally both ways.  After use a clean healthy moisturizer.  You definitely don’t want use anything with toxic ingredients as it’s going deep into your skin.

I will do more posts on healthy products to use for skincare that are healthy and great to use while derma rolling.

I did buy one derma roller that was cheaply made and and broke easily, so be careful what you buy as you don’t want even one needle out of place.  BUT, the bright side is that well made ones are inexpensive and I’ve listed a few below that work well.

You can buy some derma rollers here and work your skin up in levels.  Or here if you just want to buy the 1.0 length and type that I use.  Or, if you want the safest one and just want one, this one is good for that.  Click on these links and enjoy!

I will post more later on what specific products are great for your skin, and especially with derma rolling.

Many have seen great results, hence why I have tried and recommend derma rolling, as this fits into our mission statement as being natural, effective and low cost.

If you realize you need a renewing of your mind and soul, which is of course of highest importance, see Romans 12:2.  I renew my mind by meditating on the Word of God.

Dealing with Fibromyalgia?

Here’s another health post.  I know, you’re probably thinking, ‘stick to the beauty stuff salon owner!’  But there is such an urge to help people with valuable information I’ve learned about health issues that has made a difference in so many lives.  And once again, beauty and health are definitely interrelated.  They go together in many ways for sure.

I have a customer who is a nurse and who struggled with Fibromyalgia for years.  So this is a shout out to Rachael, who has done a ton of research, has gotten well and now leads a support group with people coming who now have great success conquering this malady.  The book she recommends that has totally changed her life, along with many other’s lives as they follow it’s protocol, is called ‘What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia…’ and it’s available on Amazon for a great price here.

Please contact us at Hair Naturally if you are local and would like more information about Rachael and her support group.

Dealing with UTIs?

Again, Hair Naturally is all about healthy natural options for health and beauty, which are totally interrelated in every way.

And so, I just want to share what I’ve learned about chronic UTIs or Urinary Tract Infections from listening closely to many customers and friends.  I personally do not struggle with these, but from those who do, they can be at the least, uncomfortable and at the most, terribly painful.  And if they are chronic, it sends the sufferer over and over to the doctor for guess what?… Yet another round of antibiotics, which have their own troubles and side effects if taken too often.

To get to the point, what has been proven to work fantastically if you continue in it’s use is the supplement, D-Mannose.  One customer in her 80s wrestled with chronic UTIs for many years until she found out about this supplement, which she now takes every day and with that, has not had another UTI in over 20 years.  A little tip here… another friend heard about this and started with D-Mannose and also found that she did not have another UTI…  UNTIL she stopped taking it, thinking she would be fine.  Well, then what?  Yes, she got a UTI.  So the point being, you do have to take it daily for the rest of your life as both ladies, along with many others, testify.  And yet, this is a small price to pay for the fact that they never experience another UTI with it’s pain, multiple doctor appointments, and many many prescriptions for antibiotics and their side effects, ever again.  D-Mannose has no reported side effects, is natural and healthy and will keep you out of the doctor’s office.  If you are interested in purchasing this product, please click here and find out what over a 1000 other people have experienced in the reviews.  This brand is the most effective, best priced I could find.  Be UTI free forever!

A simple fix for a back ache

Hello Again!

Sometimes the answer is there right under our nose (or our back) and we just can’t seem to find it.  I like to share even little things I learn about natural health and beauty as they may help someone out there, which makes me happy.

So just last summer, it seemed all of the sudden that I began having a lower back ache.  I could not imagine what could be happening.  I went down many roads for about a month trying to figure out what I could have changed that brought this on.  Was it something about my work, the way I walk, my hormones or menstrual cycle?  Should I get a massage, take a supplement or go to the chiropractor?  Well, I prayed about it and decided to go to my favorite body workers I’ve mentioned before at Ohana Bodywork in Templeton, Ca.  We got to talking about it and thought of an idea, I tried it and all the lower back pain is gone.  It was that my bed had worn out a bit and had a dip in it right where I sleep and because my body was wrestling all night to lay flat and properly as it needed that suppport, it caused lower back pain.  The solution could have been that I needed to purchase another bed or even sleep on the floor as this would have been more proper support as it is a stable flat surface.  But, thanks to God, since my bed is a queen size, all I had to do was sleep on the other side.  One, I could not flip it as many can, because it’s a pillow top only on one side and it doesn’t work to flip it and two, yes I could spin it but that wasn’t working anymore either.

And so, I want to share this as there may be people out there that a simple bed flip, spin or changing of sides to sleep on could resolve issues of pain you are having.

Struggling with achy muscles?

Hey Friends!

Today I have to give a shout out to dear friends in Templeton California, Elise and Thomas McMasters, who introduced to me an amazing therapy that has taken away 90% of my pain and kept me in the career I love.  Their business, Ohana Bodywork & Massage Therapies helps many many people and they even work on pets too!

It all started about six months after I bought and opened my salon, Hair Naturally.  I was experiencing, after many years being a hair stylist, chronic pain in my shoulder/neck area.  I’ve decided to share my findings because I know many people work in careers that use the same muscle sets over and over, such as those who work long hours on computers, construction workers, even those who sit and drive all day, plus many more… even those with muscle issues not related to their work.

So, I had experienced pain off and on for years, but massage would help and it mostly went away.  But at this point, it continued day in, day out for months and I thought I may have to quit my career.  I prayed to God at this point and said to Him basically that I was ready to change careers if He would just show me the way, what He wanted me to do.  Literally within one week, I was talking with some friends at a ranch I volunteer at about this and they mentioned the McMasters and their business in Templeton.  I called and made an appointment and within four visits and a plan for exercises to do at home, 90% of my pain was gone.  What I loved so much about this is that I was not then beholden to going to them every week or month for the rest of my life.  With integrity and care, they taught me all about Somatics, which is a way to contract and slowly release your own muscles so as to release tension, almost like you had just gone and gotten a massage, so that I could do it at home and not have to continually put out money for chronic pain.  Yes, I do go every now and then for tuneups and to catch up with them, but I don’t have to go regularly and for this, I am grateful.

If you are interested in this practice, there is a wonderful book about it by Thomas Hanna, who is the founder of this type of therapy.  You can purchase it here and/or find a practitioner in your area.  I hope you find therapists as thoughtful as the McMasters.  You will not regret it.

Health post: Dealing with Vertigo

Hey Friends!

Just wanting to put a post out there for anyone who deals with Vertigo, which is often times an inner ear problem that causes such extreme dizziness that it throws some people down onto the floor.  You see, I love finding all things natural when dealing with any kind of body issue and awhile back, I learned some things that may help people with this condition.

A dear friend of mine dealt with Vertigo on and off for a few years.  He went to the doctor and learned things that helped him temporarily.  One of which was the epley maneuver.  This helped for awhile and yet it kept coming back and then eventually nothing seemed to work.  He kept hearing from various friends and customers about alternative treatments and so he finally relented in desperation.  He, along with many others who advised him, now uses 3 things daily that have kept his vertigo under control ever since.  One is a Manganese Supplement and then also a Lipo Flavanoid and he takes one of each a day.  Then he also wears a magnetic bracelet called Power Balance by Performance Technology.  Click on these links to find them on Amazon.

I’m hoping this will help someone out there who struggles with this very difficult condition.
